There is no “Recovery” You Morons!

Exposing the Lie of the Merely Bad Unemployment Numbers

Never mind the official stats that tell us the employment situation is lousy. The real situation is actually much worse:

The number of working age Americans that do not have a job has increased by nearly 10 million since Barack Obama first entered the White House.  In January 2009, the number of “officially unemployed” workers plus the number of Americans “not in the labor force” was sitting at a grand total of 92.6 million.  Today, that number has risen to 102.2 million.  That means that the number of working age Americans that are not working has grown by close to 10 million since Barack Obama first took office.  So why does the “official unemployment rate” keep going down?  Well, it is because the federal government has been pretending that millions upon millions of unemployed workers have “left the labor force” over the past few years and do not want to work anymore.  The government says that another 347,000 workers “left the labor force” in December.  That is nearly five times larger than the 74,000 jobs that were “created” by the U.S. economy last month.  And it is important to note that more than half of those jobs were temporary jobs, and it takes well over 100,000 new jobs just to keep up with population growth each month.  So the unemployment rate should not have gone down.  If anything, it should have gone up. …

The labor force participation rate is now at a 35 year low, and the only way that the federal government has been able to get the “unemployment rate” to go down is by removing hundreds of thousands of Americans out of the labor force every month.

As for the so-called “recovery,”

Most people don’t know this, but the U.S. economy actually created fewer jobs in 2013 than it did in 2012.

The total number of Americans a century ago was about the same as the number of Americans currently not working.

This sums up what Obama is doing to our country in a single graph:

Note that he took power in January 2009.

It isn’t an accident. Pretty much every initiative pertaining to economics that has been imposed or promoted by Obama and his coconspirators can be counted on to increase unemployment (e.g., ObamaCare, oppressive environmental regulations, higher taxes, raising the minimum wage, and extending unemployment benefits).

If you think it’s bad now, wait until Obama, McCain, Boehner, and the rest of the liberal quislings infesting the Beltway open the Third World floodgates by ramming through amnesty. That’s when the boat will stop listing and start sinking. Eventually the debt Obama is running up will put it all the way to the bottom of the sea.

Not Enough Americans Working to Pay for Those Who are Not Working

July 31, 2013

Obamanomics: Number of Americans Collecting SSDI Jumps 76,000 In July, Hits Another All-Time High…

Thanks to Barack Obama, SSDI has become a career choice for millions of Americans.

Via IBD:

More than 76,000 workers went on the federal government’s disability program in July, according to the latest data from the Social Security administration, bringing the total number of new enrollees this year to 534,038.

Although that is down somewhat from the same month last year, enrollment in the Social Security Disability Insurance program remains sharply higher than it has been historically. Since 2009, an average of about 1 million workers have gone on SSDI annually — a 31% increase from the average enrollment over the previous 10 years.

As a result, a record 8.9 million workers are now collecting disability benefits, which is up 15% since the recovery officially started in mid-2009.

Today, there are fewer than 13 Americans working in private sector jobs for each worker on disability. That’s down from 31 workers per disabled in 1990.

At the same time, the SSDI program is heading rapidly toward insolvency. At current spending and income rates, the program’s trust fund will become insolvent by 2016 — less than 2-1/2 years from now.

More Proof That Leftists Hate Freedom… As If We Needed More Proof

December 10, 2012

Michigan Right To Work Prompts Protest Against Freedom – Right Scoop

Michigan is not Wisconsin.

Right to Work legislation in Michigan doesn’t touch collective bargaining for private or public unions. Right to work legislation in Michigan doesn’t include firemen or police in any legislative bill. Right to work legislation in Michigan only makes it a personal decision by an employee to join or not join a union, and makes it unlawful for an employer to fire an employee for not joining or joining a union.

That’s it.

So of course, the slack-jawed pea-brained Michigan opinion dupes in the media over-act the entire issue. All of a sudden, the middle class will cease to exist if somebody has the choice to negotiate his own deal. All of a sudden, Michiganders didn’t send a majority of Republicans to handle Lansing. All of a sudden, thousands of protesters practice modified Christmas songs to sing in front of the capitol because somehow allowing more freedom is the death knell for America.

Even some union-beholden intelligence-deficient Republicans vote against individual rights when push comes to shove. Mike Nofs, the Republican Senator who pushed for unionization of home-healthcare workers after taking money along with several workers from SEIU for his reelection campaign, said he didn’t vote for Right to Work legislation because,

“I think that in general, working-class workers will not benefit from this,” Nofs said.

He said he thinks workers already have the freedom to decide whether they want to take a job that’s unionized or not.

“When you go to apply for a job, you know it’s a union job,” he said.

“If you don’t like unions, don’t apply for a union job. There are plenty of other non-union jobs.”

Senator Tom Casperson has also said he is against the Right to Work, and though I haven’t talked with him on this issue, has mentioned to others that he believes unions create higher wages and that Right To Work would lessen those wages. Somehow. I guess.

But these fellows are wrong, just as is the predictable media and the fanatical demonstrators that will be bussed in on Tuesday. The protesters are undergoing vigorous training, preparing for clashes with police.

The unions are preparing for war because, quite simply, it is not right for people to be able to take on their own responsibility.

From the Detroit News: ”Humanize the situation. Be clear with your intentions. Introduce yourself,” national labor activist Lisa Fithian, of Austin, Texas, said through a megaphone. “They’re going to do everything they can to criminalize us.”

I’ll humanize the situation. When a man or woman works for someone else he or she can take what is handed out, or he or she can negotiate for his or her own future. Yes, wages are high because of unions, but they also increase the prices of goods which hurts middle America. The unskilled laborer hits a windfall when he makes comparable money and benefits as a highly-skilled specialized laborer.

If equality is what is sought, tell me of the equality between someone who never took the initiative to learn a craft and one who can build something and make it work. People are different, and in companies all across the nation people with special skills negotiate for their own pay. This legislation is about the right to be responsible for yourself.

Of course the argumentative union representatives complain that it would be unfair for people who refuse to join a union to be able to ‘freeload’ from the collective bargaining efforts of the union. Actually, they are more afraid that when a skilled laborer makes a better deal based on skills that he owns as much as he owns his body, that it will be the end of union power over man.

If men and women are allowed to create their own deal and depend on their own ability to succeed or fail, they won’t be “freeloading”. In fact it will cause people to learn skills, an acute need in America.

The only freeloading taking place is that of unions who launder dues into Democrat coffers at election time. If you are of the mind that you do not agree with the Democrat party and you do not wish to feed it, and you belong to a union, you can get out.

So as this whole issue gets overblown with civil disobedience courses being taught in universities and pastors railing at the pulpit against the so-called extreme nature of Right To Work, just remember, freedom isn’t free and slavery comes in many forms.

On Tuesday many people will object to freedom by protesting. In the near future, the unions will try to organize recall efforts for some or all of the Republicans who voted in favor of RTW, including the governor. We will be fed the impression that Republicans are anti-American Nazis and who knows what other drivel they will conjure.

If in America you are not allowed to be your own person, responsible and willing to be accountable to yourself and yourself alone, then there is no freedom anywhere.

A great American author, Eric Hoffer, wrote of mass movements and described the condition of those who do push for solidarity in the collective versus the freedom of man:

Freedom of choice places the whole blame of failure on the shoulders of the individual. And as freedom encourages a multiplicity of attempts, it unavoidably multiplies failure and frustration… Unless a man has the talents to make something of himself, freedom is an irksome burden. Of what avail is freedom to choose if the self be ineffectual?

It is hard work when one decides to be completely responsible but there are empowering side effects that create a confident, vibrant economy and society. By arguing and protesting against individual empowerment, those against Freedom to Work put themselves in direct conflict with the fabric of America.

Power to the people, individually.

Miserable Economic Conditions Will Lead to Dependency, Envy, Strife, and Death – The Liberal Formula Being Carried Out in America

November 12, 2012

Democrat Death Spiral

The objective of liberal politics is to induce the Democrat Death Spiral, a vicious cycle by which miserable economic conditions lead to government dependency and class envy, leading to Democrat electoral victories, leading to higher taxes and crippling regulations, leading to still more miserable economic conditions. Once the Democrat Death Spiral has been initiated, the more damage left-wing bureaucrats inflict on the economy, the more certain they are of reelection.

Detroit entered the Democrat Death Spiral decades ago. As a result of the city’s utter wretchedness, the Democrats who inflicted it receive upwards of 90% of the vote. There is no possibility of Democrats losing control, or of the city ever regaining its lost greatness.

California officially entered the Democrat Death Spiral when it brought back Jerry Brown despite a desperate economic situation that urgently required the state to turn away from Governor Moonbeam’s brand of profligate liberalism. In effect, the state committed suicide out of sheer moonbattery. Its prospects are no better than Detroit’s.

The United States of America officially entered the Democrat Death Spiral on November 6, 2012. Obama was not reelected despite the awful state of the economy under his rule but because of it. The more of a mess Obama makes, the more his Marxist rhetoric will resonate, the tighter the grip Democrats will have on America’s throat. This is why Obama will not lift a finger to improve the economic situation, but rather will deliberately worsen it by using taxation to drive up unemployment.

It is no coincidence that Obama received 98% of the vote in Detroit, America’s worst and most liberal city, the model for our future.

From here forward, the worse it gets, the worse it will get. Unless a way is found to reverse the cycle by removing liberals from power, each day will be the best day of the rest of America’s existence.

Be sure to thank the next liberal you see.

Where the cycle will inevitably lead.

Obama “Proud” of massive Welfare Expansion?

November 2, 2012

Obama Campaign Touts Massive Welfare Expansion As One Of His Accomplishments…

Wherever the Obama phone lady is, she’s nodding in approval.

Via Politico:

For two decades, Democrats running for the White House have observed a basic rule: when discussing welfare, do so only in the context of “welfare reform.”

That’s why it was so striking to see President Barack Obama’s campaign depart from that tradition and use the W-word Wednesday without any reference to reining in or overhauling such programs. In fact, the Obama camp seemed to be boasting about welfare’s success in buffeting the impact of the country’s recent economic downturn.

In a list of 29 of Obama’s accomplishments, No. 9 was this: “His tax cuts, social-welfare programs, and economic policies lifted nearly 7 million Americans above the federal poverty line in 2010.”

The Obama campaign e-mailed the list out early Thursday with hopes it will go viral. “You should forward this,” the e-mail said.

Justice Department Gives Hiring Priority to the Clinically Insane and Intellectually Disabled

You don’t have to be black, Muslim, or homosexual to get ahead through government employment. You can also be a dwarf, clinically insane, or just really, really dumb. A piece that came out in PJ Tatler last August sheds some light on the quality of personnel in the Injustice Department.

The PJ Tatler has obtained documents from the Justice Department detailing efforts to recruit attorneys and staff who are dwarfs or who have “psychiatric disabilities” or “severe intellectual disabilities.” On May 31, 2012, Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez issued a directive to affirmatively recruit people with these “targeted disabilities.”

This DOJ policy does not merely involve prohibitions against discrimination, but rather the documents reveal deliberate recruitment efforts to hire as attorneys and staff for the Department of Justice people suffering from psychiatric disorders and intellectual disabilities. Moreover, applicants can “self-identify” their disability by means of the “Standard Form 256, Self Identification Disability.”

That is, if you put “I am crazy and stupid” on your resume, you will be given hiring priority. Yet government workers are paid 40% more than their presumably intellectually superior private sector counterparts.

10 Times More People Removed From The Labor Force Than Were Added In

October 16, 2012

For Every Person Added To Labor Force, 10 Added To Those Not In Labor Force

For Every Person Added To Labor Force, 10 Added To Those Not In Labor Force – Weekly Standard

A new chart from the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee details the fact that, since January 2009, for every person added to the labor force, 10 have been added to those not in the labor force. Here’s a chart showing the dwindling labor force:

“For Every 1 Person Added To Labor Force Since January 2009,” the chart reads, “10 People Added To Those Not In Labor Force.”

That is, in nearly the four years, since President Obama took office in January 2009, only 827,000 people have been added to the labor force, while during that same time period, 8,208,000 have been added to those not in the labor force.

The chart relies on data available from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“The numbers represented in the chart are a measure of growth from January 2009 through September 2012,” the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee explains. “The data is sourced from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Current Population Survey, a sample of 60,000 households conducted by personal and telephone interviews. Basic labor force data are gathered monthly. The labor force consists of all people aged 16 and over either employed or actively seeking work. It does not include discouraged workers, people who have retired, or those on welfare or disability who are no longer looking for work. The ‘not in the labor force’ group is defined as the total civilian non-institutional population minus the labor force.”

Since January 2009, the labor force has grown by 0.54 percent, or 827,000 people (from 154,236,000 to 155,063,000). Those not in the labor force grew by 10.2 percent during the same period (8,208,000 people), from 80,502,000 to 88,710,000. In other words, for every one person added to the labor force of the United States since January 2009, the size of the U.S. population not in the labor force grew by 10 people.

And the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee concludes, “These figures reveal several troubling trends: That the jobs market is not keeping pace with U.S. population growth; that not enough younger Americans are joining the labor force to account for retirement among an ageing population; and that a large number of workers have become so discouraged that they simply stopped looking for work and left the labor force entirely. These factors pose serious fiscal challenges for the United States. A historically low labor force participation rate – together with an ageing population and a record number of people drawing federal welfare benefits – puts severe strain on the federal budget in both the near and long term.”

UPDATE: Senator Jeff Sessions, the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, comments: “The essential point of this chart is not simply how many people are employed or unemployed, but to illustrate that more and more people are simply not part of the U.S. labor force. This confirms that we are on the wrong track. It is unsustainable to have such a large and growing number of people who are not part of the productive economy. This is not a political argument, but a description of the underlying instability in our economy that has so many Americans worried about the future. The question is what can we do to reverse these trends and start moving in the right direction.”

Unemployment Picture: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics

Unemployment Drop Made Simple

For anyone confused by the remarkable coincidence of the official unemployment rate finally but mysteriously dropping below 8%, even without a rise in the percentage employed, just as Romney emerged as a serious threat to Hope & Change, Patriot Post makes it simple with this graphic:

Mark Twain credited the great countermoonbat Benjamin Disraeli with an even simpler explanation:

“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.”

Honesty In Government: Not So Much

By Flyovercountry, with h/t to yenta-fada

Here’s a tiny excerpt:

While our economy added 114,000 jobs, our population increased by 150,000 during September. This marks the 48th consecutive month that available jobs increased by a number lower than population growth. In what universe would an unemployment decrease be possible?

There’s a whole lot more at the link. Read it all!

Washington Examiner: The McJobs Report

High-wage and mid-wage jobs vanished and never came back

During the robust Reagan jobs recovery in the 1980s, liberals regularly dismissed good news by attributing it to the creation of “McJobs.” So it’s interesting to see liberals celebrating the September jobs report, in which the headline unemployment figure fell to 7.8 percent, largely because of an increase in Americans settling for low paying part-time jobs.

Once a month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports two main sets of employment numbers. Under one measure, based on a survey of employers, the economy added 114,000 jobs in September. Under another measure, based on a smaller survey of households, the economy added 873,000. But a more detailed look at these numbers shows that 572,000 — or about 67 percent — of the reported job gains that contributed to the reduction in the unemployment rate came from workers who had to settle for part time work. BLS explains that, “The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers) rose from 8.0 million in August to 8.6 million in September. These individuals were working part time because their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a full-time job.” This is why a broader measure of unemployment, which takes into account those who were forced to accept inferior jobs, remained flat at 14.7 percent.

This report  is part of a broader trend that we’ve seen over the past few years, in which job gains have been concentrated in lower-wage positions. And this isn’t just spin from the Romney campaign. Over the summer, the liberal National Employment Law Project released a report that was highlighted in the Atlantic, which focused on this trend. The report found that:

– Lower-wage occupations were 21 percent of recession losses, but 58 percent of recovery growth.

– Mid-wage occupations were 60 percent of recession losses, but only 22 percent of recovery growth.

This is illustrated by the NELP chart above. Though Obama has touted modest job gains during the recovery as evidence things are getting better, looking merely at the headline jobs and unemployment number obscures the fact that the middle class has still struggled to find quality jobs, while more Americans are settling for lower-paying work.

The upshot:

Those of us who are employed, but at very low-paid jobs, cannot make ends meet no matter how frugally we live. To survive, many of us are dipping into what was supposed to have been our retirement savings. Sure, we’re working, in the sense that we are expending our time and effort, often at unpleasant and physically demanding tasks. But we aren’t getting paid enough to live on, nor do we have adequate insurance coverage. To count us as “employed” in any meaningful sense is to stretch the truth past the breaking point.

Why the Country Is Unhappy Under Obama

The real unemployment rate is 15 percent, measured by what is called U-6, which includes people who are working part-time on an involuntary basis.

We have 4.7 million fewer jobs than the peak reached at the end of 2007. And indeed much of the improvement in jobs has been through dubious “seasonal” adjustments, such as the July seasonal bump of 377,000 jobs—the largest such adjustment for July in the past 10 years. The labor participation rate has dropped to a 30-year low, and if not for that development, the unemployment rate would be much higher. — Mort Zuckerman- US News and World Report

Study: Obamacare Regulations Have Dragged $27.6 Billion Out Of The Economy, Killed More Than 18,000 Jobs…

Via Washington Examiner:

Fully implementing Obamacare regulations have already cost the U.S. economy $27.6 billion and more than 18,000 jobs according to a new study released today. Just the top ten most expensive regulations have cost $24.4 billion, according to the new non-partisan and independent American Action Forum (AAF) report.

Just complying with the state health exchanges alone has to cost employers $3.4 billion according to the AAF totals which were compiled from Federal Register data. In addition to the regulatory costs, AAF estimates that Obamacare regulatory compliance has eaten up more than 60 million hours in paperwork. At 2,000 hours a year that comes to 30,000 jobs.

The AAF paper also calculated the regulatory costs and job losses in each state for the top ten must expensive Obamacare regulations. California has borne the brunt of Obamacare’s costs suffering $3.4 billion in costs and 2,917 jobs lost. Texas has been hit second hardest with $1.8 billion in costs and 1,292 jobs lost.

Olive Garden And Red Lobster To Cut Workers Hours In Advance Of Obamacare…

Thanks Barack!

The owner of Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants is putting more workers on part-time status in a test aimed at limiting the impact of looming health coverage requirements.

Darden Restaurants declined to give details but said the test is only in restaurants in four markets across the country. The test entails increasing the number of workers on part-time status, meaning they work less than 30 hours a week. Under the new health care act, companies will be required to provide health care to full-time employees by 2014. That would significantly boost labor costs for businesses.

About 75 percent of Darden’s employees are currently part-timers.

Bob McAdam, who heads government affairs and community relations for Darden, said the company is still learning from the tests, which was first reported by The Orlando Sentinel.

“We’re not at a point where we have results,” he said. McAdam also noted that Darden is not alone in looking at ways to keep labor costs in check, with companies industry wide prepping for the new regulations to take effect.

Over A Million Construction Jobs Lost Under Obama

October 7, 2012

Over A Million Construction Jobs Lost Under Obama

1,035,000: Construction Jobs Lost Under Obama – CNS

When President Barack Obama signed his economic stimulus legislation on Feb. 17, 2009, he said that one impact of the act would be to create jobs for 400,000 people building and rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure.

But despite a price tag that the Congressional Budget Office now says was $833 billion, the economic stimulus of February 2009 did not create 400,000 new construction jobs.

In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there are now 1,035,000 fewer construction jobs in the United States than there were in January 2009, when Obama was inaugurated, and 925,000 less than in February 2009 when Obama signed his stimulus act.

The decline in construction jobs in the United States did not start when President Obama took office, but the $833 billion stimulus act he pushed through Congress and signed did not stop or reverse that decline.

According to the National Bureau of Economic Research–on which Obama’s former top economic adviser Christina Romer serves–says that the last recession ended in June 2009. Since then, according to BLS, America has lost 484,000 construction jobs.

In September 2012, according to BLS, 5,523,000 Americans had jobs in the construction industry. That is down from 6,558,000 in January 2009, when Obama took office; it is down from6,448,000 in February 2009, when Obama signed the $833 billion stimulus; it is down from 6,007,000 when the recession ended in June 2009; and it is down from 5,564,000 from January of this year, when Obama started the fourth year of his presidential term.

When Obama signed the stimulus, he said it would put 400,000 to work rebuilding and expanding infrastructure.

“Because we know we can’t build our economic future on the transportation and information networks of the past, we are remaking the American landscape with the largest new investment in our nation’s infrastructure since Eisenhower built an Interstate Highway System in the 1950s,” Obama told a crowd in Denver, Colo., where he signed the bill.

“Because of this investment,” he said, “nearly 400,000 men and women will go to work rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, repairing our faulty dams and levees, bringing critical broadband connections to businesses and homes in nearly every community in America, upgrading mass transit, building high-speed rail lines that will improve travel and commerce throughout our nation.”

Construction jobs in the United States started declining before Obama entered office, having peaked at 7,726,000 in April 2006. By January 2009, when Obama was inaugurated, that had declined by 1,168,000 to 6,558,000. Since then, as noted, it has declined an additional 1,035,000 to the current level of 5,523,000.

@hardball_chris ‘Pecksniff’ Matthews Goes After Welch’s Calling BS On BLS

“It’s not funny, Jack.”

Why, yes it is, Mr. Matthews. You act the peevish little schoolmarm here, attempting to beat up Jack Welch for daring to state something that is known in the Court of Public Opinion: the BLS is AFU. The last 64 revisions to initial jobless claims have been >= 0. The last 64. In a row. Unexpectedly. As if by magic.

Do you understand, Mr. Matthews? Every deceit costs a little bit of credibility. After you’ve lied enough, the set of people who believe you is reduced to you, yourself. And maybe that Maddow lady.

The timing of this jobs play is so transparent as to make one wonder why you Commies didn’t throw out a bigger lie:

May fortune favor Jack Welch. As with Eastwood at the RNC, Welch has stepped in and offered a valuable public service in decrying this Administration’s deceits. Welch has the track record to back up his tweet, and certainly doesn’t need the money. He’s doing the right thing for the right reasons here, as far as I can tell.

And as for you, Matthews: conservatives await the death of MSNBC and word that you, Mike Wallace, and Keith Olbermann have formed an outlet that thinks it’s a news organization.

ABINGDON, Virginia
Mitt Romney spoke to a crowd of nearly 4,000 people here in a midday rally, where he emphasized for the coal industry, a vital part of the economy in southwest Virginia. There was a strong representation at the rally from the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE).

While at the rally, I got a chance to talk with an award-winning local reporter, Debra McCown, who explained that some 1,200 coal workers in the area had been laid off recently because of EPA regulations that have curbed the use of coal in electrical power plants. McCown explained that during the 2008 campaign, Obama made two trips to the area, as did his running mate Joe Biden, while John McCain’s only visit to the area was an airport stop at the Tri-Cities Airport in Sullivan County, Tennessee — just south of the Virginia border — the day before Election Day.

During his speech, Mitt got a cheer from the crowd when he mentioned the debate, and said that Obama’s statements during Wednesday’s debates were essentially “a reiteration of the status quo.” The biggest cheer during the entire rally was when Romney promised to repeal ObamaCare. Citing the latest employment report, Romney said, “We can do better.”

Ali Akbar gave me a ride to the event and has posted an entire Facebook page of photos from the rally.

UPDATE: Romney’s rapid response press operation is  already online with this video clip of Mitt’s speech at Abingdon:

“My priority is creating jobs. I will help small business do that with everything I can do. Now, we can do better. We don’t have to stay on the path we have been on. We can do better. There was a report that just came out this morning on job creation this last month. There were fewer new jobs created this month than last month. The unemployment rate, as you know, this year has come down very, very slowly, but it has come down nonetheless. The reason it has come down this year is primarily due to the fact that more and more people have just stopped looking for work. And if you just drop out of the workforce, if you just give up and say, look, I can’t go back to work, I’m just going to stay home, if you just drop out altogether, why, you’re no longer part of the employment statistics. So, it looks like unemployment is getting better, but the truth is if the same share of people were participating in the workforce today, as on the day the President got elected, our unemployment rate would be around 11%. That’s the real reality of what’s happening out there. And then, of course, even those that have jobs are having tough times. The middle class is being squeezed with higher and higher costs and with incomes that have gone down by $4,300 a family. This can’t go on. I’ll tell you this: when I’m President of the United States, when I’m President of the United States, that unemployment rate is going to come down, not because people are giving up and dropping out of the workforce, but because we are creating more jobs. I will create jobs and get America working again.”

The Left is now claiming that criticism of the economy — the decline in the official unemployment rate caused by people dropping out of the work force, a statistical oddity — is “job trutherism,” as if Jack Welch doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Look, I mentioned this same phenomenon, as demonstrated by recent reports of employment in Crawford County, Ohio, earlier this week:

Americans have become accustomed to this sort of “good news” in the Obama era, and there was more of it in that small-town Ohio paper. “Unemployment remains the same,” declared the headline across the top of the front page. The story explained that, although the official unemployment rate in Crawford County, Ohio (population 43,389) declined from 9 percent in July to 8 percent in August, it wasn’t because more people were working. “Since the number of employed stayed the same, 200 people went off of unemployment because their time limit is up and they have not found work yet,” Dave Williamson, director of the Crawford County Economic Development Partnership, told the Bucyrus paper. “We have no more people working than we did last month.”
Extrapolate such statistical hocus-pocus at the local level across the entire state of Ohio, or nationwide, and you understand how some people might be deceived into believing that the Obama administration has actually produced an economic recovery.

Statistics that “hide the decline” (i.e., the shrinking workforce, as more and more discouraged workers cease to be counted in the official unemployment number) do not fool anyone who actually looks at the underlying data. Anyone who is confused about this should consult James Pethokoukis at The American Enterprise Institute.

The “REAL” Unemployment Numbers

September 12, 2012

Fun Fact Of The Day: Unemployment Rate Would Be 11.2% If Labor Force Same As When Obama Took Office…

Via Daily Caller:

Last Friday’s jobs report does not tell the whole unemployment story, according to American Enterprise Institute blogger and CNBC contributor James Pethokoukis.

He writes, “If the labor force participation rate was the same as when Obama took office in January 2009, the unemployment rate would be 11.2%.”

Had the participation rate remained the same as the previous month, Pethokoukis points out, “the unemployment rate would be 8.4 percent” — higher than the 8.1 percent in the August report.

Those who have returned to work amidst the meager recovery are often only finding jobs that are part-time and pay less than what they formerly earned.

“The broader U-6 unemployment rate, which includes part-time workers who want full-time work, is at 14.7 percent.”

Obama Wants Everyone to Be Slaves of The Big Government Plantation

August 29, 2012

Feds Push to Make Higher Percentage of Americans Dependent

According to the federal government, only 15% of Americans turn to it for help during the hard times it creates. Clearly this means Big Government’s work is not done:

More Americans rely on their families for assistance than the government, so federal officials have undertaken an effort to help people to apply for federal assistance.

“Given that only 15 percent of you turn to government assistance in tough times, we want to make sure you know about benefits that could help you,” USA.gov announced today. The ”government made easy’ website has created a “help for difficult financial times” page for people to learn more about the programs.

The site conveniently makes it much easier to help yourself to other people’s moneythan it is to find a job with Obama’s boot on the neck of the private sector.

Only in the world of bureaucrats could the 15% figure pass the laugh test, when Obama has that many on food stamps alone, and federal programs to redistributewealth are beyond number. Once again we see that math is not our socialist rulers’ forte.

Not rising fast enough to suit bureaucrats.

Under Obama, Disability Claims Have Outpaced New Jobs

At least our socialist rulers have found a way to ease the unemployment they’ve caused. After a couple of years, when your unemployment comp finally runs out, you can just claim disability. It’s so easy, practically everybody’s doing it:

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama’s recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

In other words, the number of new disability enrollees has climbed 19% faster than the number of jobs created during the sluggish recovery.

Those climbing aboard the disability gravy train aren’t the only ones not working who aren’t counted in the official unemployment rate.

In addition, while hiring has been very weak during the recovery, the number of people who have dropped out of the labor force entirely has exploded by 7.3 million since June 2009, an [Investors Business Daily] analysis of [Bureau of Labor Statistics] data show[s]. Some aged into retirement, but most either signed up for disability, stayed in school, moved back in with parents, or just quit looking for a job.

As a result, the “labor force participation rate” — the number of people who have jobs or are actively looking for one compared with the entire working-age population — is now 63.8%, down from 65.7% in June 2009. This participation rate is at the lowest levels in 30 years. In previous recoveries, the participation rate has almost always risen, not fallen.

That’s because this is not a recovery, but a lull between the Great Recession and the full-scale depression that will ensue if Obama holds onto power for another term.

The number of long-term unemployed — those out of work 27 weeks or more — is still 5.4 million — almost 1 million higher than when the recovery began, and almost twice the level it ever reached prior to Obama’s recovery.

Fortunately for the disabled of all abilities, the money comes in anyway. For now.

What a great deal socialism is. True there aren’t many jobs, but you don’t need one when the government will pay you just to be dependent.

The problem comes when our rulers inevitably run out of other people’s money and everything collapses. That’s when the useless eaters go to the labor camps. But it’s not as if DEAD END signs haven’t been posted all along Easy Street. Freeloaders will be able to look back through the barbed wire and console themselves that it was fun while it lasted.

The road to utter ruin.

Ignoring Evil Will Not Cause it To Disappear

July 9, 2012

July 8, 2012

The normalcy bias is a killer – literally.

Let’s call the Greater Depression of 2008-2012 (and counting!) what it is.

Yes, it is that bad. But too many people, both in the media and elsewhere, still think that putting their heads in the sand and refusing to put a name to evil will cause that evil to disappear.

No, the rot in our body politic not start with Barack Hussein Obama. It set in long before that, and it has gotten worse with every administration since Ronald Reagan left office. That said, BHO has raised presidential profligacy and perfidy to an entirely new level. And the SCOTUS has doubled down on doing damage in the week following their outrageous Obamacare ruling.

We are told to accept all of this as the “new normal.” We must not!

Black Unemployment is Sky High – Obama Will Not Help His Brothers Out. What The…?

July 8, 2012

Under Obama, Black Unemployment Skyrockets

Blacks bearing a racial grudge sure stuck it good to the white man by voting for Barack Hussein Obama. But they also stuck it good to themselves. Crushed by the Big Government boot on its neck, the economy was only able to create 80,000 jobslast month, probably not even enough to keep up with the undocumented Democrats pouring over the border.

Hit hardest were the unemployed in the black community, where the unemployment rate increased from 13.6% in May to 14.4% in June. For black youths aged 16 to 19, the unemployment rate is now an astonishing 39.3%, up from 36.5% last month.

These numbers do not include the millions who are underemployed or who have given up looking for work. Nor do they reflect Benedict Roberts’s catastrophic ObamaCare ruling, which will cripple businesses. Hiring of blacks and whites alike may have to wait until employers see if Romney can get in there and repeal the monstrosity.

Despite the Manchurian Moonbat’s politically precious pigmentation, Hopey Change has been no kinder to blacks than anyone else. Not that this will prevent many from voting for him again.

A liberal is someone who drills holes in the bottom of the boat, pleased that the other passengers will drown, not realizing that he will drown first.

Then stop voting for commies.
