ISRAELI PM Netanyahu bitch slaps Arab MK who tells Knesset: “Jews are the enemy of peace” and “We were here before you and we’ll be here after you”
Well, what do you expect? That’s what you get for allowing Arabs a voice in the Israeli government.
Algemeiner A meeting at Israel’s Knesset Wednesday turned raucous after Arab Israeli MK Jamal Zahalka (Balad) made the comments during a debate on a referendum bill aimed to ensure Israelis will have a right to vote on any final status agreement with the Palestinian Authority. Zahalka said that the bill was irrelevant because it referred to “occupied territory, and as such, what applies is international law; the referendum should apply to the nations of the world.”
The comment was jeered at by MKs in the Knesset, to which Zahalka responded: “You’re an enemy of peace. We were here before you, and we’ll be here after you.”

People smirk when I compare Christians and Jews today to the Jews of Europe in the ’40′s. Only today, Muslims are the Nazis and the non-Muslims of the world are the Jews. Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, explains why.
Inquiry into Islam (h/t Susan K) If you haven’t read the powerful book, Night, by Elie Wiesel, you really should. It is his account of what happened to him during WWII. He was a young teen living in a small village in Hungary when, in 1942, the Hungarian police arrived to announce that all foreign Jews had to leave. The police loaded them all into trains and took them away.
The people in the town were disturbed, of course. It was a sad day. But after a few months, the memory began to fade, and life eventually returned to normal. They felt they were far enough removed from the war that it would end before it ever came to their remote village.
Then one day, one of those foreign Jews found his way back to the village. His name was Moishe. He was an old man, but the young Elie Wiesel had known him fairly well. Moishe had an extraordinary story to tell. He said when the trainload of Jews crossed the border into Polish territory, the Gestapo loaded them into trucks and took all the Jews into a forest where they were forced to dig huge trenches, and then they were all shot! Moishe himself was shot in the leg and left for dead. But he escaped and had been struggling to get back to the little village so he could warn people of what happened. He was urging everyone to flee; to get away before the Germans came.
He went “from one Jewish house to the next,” wrote Elie Wiesel, “telling his story…” And he repeatedly and urgently told his story at the synagogue.
But nobody believed him.
They thought he must have lost his mind. Why would the Germans just kill Jews like that? Germany was a modern, industrialized, enlightened country. They wouldn’t simply murder people so heartlessly and for no reason. Moishe must have lost his mind.
Moishe was insistent. He begged people to listen to him. He cried. He pleaded. But not one person believed him. They didn’t want to believe him, and that’s a formidable barrier to communication.
Our message — that what is written in Islamic texts is dangerous to non-Muslims — is also something many people do not want to believe. The implications are too heavy. The people of Elie’s village didn’t want to contemplate what it would mean if Moishe’s story was true. It would mean tragedy and heartache and a loss of faith in humanity. It would mean a drastically different future for everyone. If they believed Moishe, the wise course of action would be to immediately pack up or sell everything they own and move somewhere they’d never been before. They’d have to start over. The journey would be fraught with uncertainty and danger. Most of them had lived their whole lives in that little village.
But they had another option, didn’t they? They could explain away Moishe’s terrifying story. They could decide there must be some other explanation.
That’s what we run into also, isn’t it? People are desperately trying to explain it away. If it’s true that the doctrines of Islam are dangerous to non-Muslims, we should all drop what we’re doing and address it. What’s the point of going on about our lives, as they did in Elie’s village, if it will all go terribly wrong in a few years? No, there would be no return to normal. If someone truly and fully grasps the real situation, they’re in a whole new world, and the “important goals” they were busy trying to accomplish up until now would be abruptly abandoned in order to handle this new (and far more pressing) reality.
But they have another option, don’t they? They can decide there must be some other explanation. You must not understand it correctly. You must be taking the Koranic passages out of context. Muslims who believe in Islamic doctrines must be a very small minority. There must be some other explanation.
What would you have done if you were in Moishe’s situation? Do you think you could have gotten someone to believe you? How would you get through to people? Or would you have given up, as Moishe did, and leave them all to their fate?
In 1944, the German Army arrived at Elie’s village and immediately initiated new policies to limit freedoms for Jews. The noose closed in tighter and tighter, one policy at a time, until one day all the Jews of the village were imprisoned in a ghetto and ordered to board the transport trains. People were terrified. What did this mean? They were busy in Elie’s house frantically packing up food for the trip when Moishe came up to the front door and shouted, “I warned you!” Then he turned and left without waiting for anyone to respond.
It was too late to do anything about it. They were transported to Auschwitz, and all of them suffered terrible, unbelievable physical and psychological torment. Most of them ended up dead.
If Moishe had been able to make people believe him, everyone in the village would have had plenty of time to flee.
Let’s not repeat the same mistake. Let’s get through. Not with force. Not with crying or pleading or intensity. Let’s find out what allows our message to penetrate, and let’s use it with ever-growing skill. If you need help, it is available here: Tools.
E.W. Jackson, GOP nominee for Virginia Lt. Governor: “Obama clearly has Muslim sensibilities and sees the world and Israel from a Muslim perspective”
In a blog post from 2010, Jackson wrote that Obama has taken an anti-Semitic approach to the White House that he “picked up from the black community.” He said it had jeopardized the security of Israel and the US relationship with its Middle East ally.
Mediaite Jackson argued that Obama adopted an anti-Israel view in life that was more sympathetic to Muslims because the president used to attend a church led by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, whom Jackson called a virulent anti-Semite. “You don’t merely attend a church, you ‘sit under’ a pastor to be taught and mentored by him,” wrote Jackson.
His construct of “The Muslim World” is unique in modern diplomacy. It is said that only The Muslim Brotherhood and other radical elements of the religion use that concept. It is a call to unify Muslims around the world. It is rather odd to hear an American President use it. In doing so he reveals more about his thinking than he intends. The dramatic policy reversal of joining the unrelentingly ant-Semitic, anti-Israel and pro-Islamic UN Human Rights Council is in keeping with the President’s truest – albeit undeclared – sensibilities
Those who are paying attention and thinking about these issues do not find it unreasonable to consider that President Obama is influenced by a strain of anti-Semitism picked up from the black community, his leftist friends and colleagues, his Muslim associations and his long period of mentorship under Jeremiah Wright. If this conclusion is accurate, Israel has some dark days ahead. For the first time in her history, she may find the President of the United States siding with her enemies. Those who believe as I do that Israel must be protected had better be ready for the fight. We are. NEVER AGAIN!
Soon after the Obama Regime went into overdrive to publicize having finally given the green light to the SEAL raid that killed Osama bin Laden, 17 SEALs were killed along with 13 other troops when a US helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan under questionable circumstances. Try not to smash your computer screen when you read what our Islamophile rulers permitted to happen at their funeral service:
Today three families of Navy SEAL Team VI special forces servicemen, along with one family of an Army National Guardsman, appeared at a press conference to disclose never before revealed information about how and why their sons along with 26 others died in a fatal helicopter crash in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011. …
At the press conference today the families released video on how military brass, while prohibiting any mention of a Judeo-Christian God, invited a Muslim cleric to the funeral for the fallen Navy SEAL Team VI heroes. This cleric disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen by damning them as infidels to Allah.
This video from today’s press conference includes footage of the funeral services at Bagram Air Force Base:
A transcript of the Muslim curse the heroes were granted instead of a Christian blessing:
Amen. I shelter in Allah from the devil who has been cast with stones. In the name of Allah the merciful forgiver. The companions of “THE FIRE” (The sinners and infidels who are fodder for the hell fire) ARE NOT EQUAL WITH the companions of heaven. The companions of heaven (Muslims) are the WINNERS. Had he sent this Koran to the mountain, you would have seen the mountain prostrated in fear of Allah. (Mocking the GOD of Moses) Such examples are what we present to the people, so that they would think. (repent and convert to Islam) Blessings are to your God (Allah) the God of glory and what they describe. And peace be upon the messengers (prophets) and thanks be to Allah the lord of both universes (mankind and Jinn).

Maybe in this cowed and cowardly age, the denouement was inevitable: on Wednesday night, the Great Neck Synagogue on Long Island canceled a speech by Pamela Geller that had been scheduled for Sunday. This was after Islamic supremacists, led by one Habeeb Ahmed of the Nassau County Human Rights Commission, and Leftists mounted a large-scale campaign of defamation of Geller in the media and intimidation of synagogue officials through private channels. It is bad enough that it was done. It is even worse that it succeeded.
This ugly little affair in Great Neck closely parallels my own recent experience. I had been scheduled to speak on March 16 at a Catholic Men’s Conference in Worcester, Massachusetts, but after a Leftist reporter at the Boston Globe and a local Muslim leader who is an open supporter of a convicted jihad terrorist raised a controversy, Bishop Robert McManus of Worcester cancelled my appearance. He also subsequently ignored my repeated requests for a meeting to clear my name, as well as a petition that garnered over 3,000 signatures, asking that he reinstate my talk.
In his only public statement on the matter, McManus spoke of “concern” that “Mr. Spencer’s talk about extreme, militant Islamists and the atrocities that they have perpetrated globally might undercut the positive achievements that we Catholics have attained in our inter-religious dialogue with devout Muslims.” In other words, to discuss the Muslim persecution of Christians might offend the Muslims here who profess to oppose that persecution. The bishop did not explain why they would be offended by an honest discussion of something they claim to oppose.
Great Neck Synagogue officials were not as craven as McManus, who added that an honest discussion by me of the real atrocities committed by Muslims in the name of Islam around the world might “generate suspicion and even fear of people who practice piously the religion of Islam” – thereby repeating the Islamic supremacist smear that my work for the defense of Constitutional freedoms somehow endangers innocent people.
By contrast, the synagogue leaders acknowledged none of the intense barrage of lies great and small about Pamela Geller that had been sent their way since the controversy was ginned up. Rather, they ascribed the cancellation to the determination that it would be “irresponsible to jeopardize the safety of those who call Great Neck Synagogue home, especially our children, even at the risk of diverting attention from a potentially important voice in the ongoing debate.”
Nonetheless, the outcome is the same: the precedent is reinforced that smear campaigns work, and that all the foes of freedom have to do in order to shut down any voices opposed to them is mount a campaign simultaneously vilifying and demonizing their targeted speaker and showing the host the price he will have to pay for featuring the target. As Saul Alinsky said, “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it.” His thuggish children and heirs are doing just that: picking off the defenders of freedom one by one, isolating, demonizing and marginalizing them, and making people who stage and host speakers afraid to invite them, for fear of the firestorm that is certain to ensue.
Their capitulations, however, only make more such firestorms inevitable. And so while it is understandable that no one wants to face them, and no one wants a media frenzy around what was supposed to be a quiet event, the more people cave in to them, the worse it is going to be for everyone else. For the enemies of free speech and the enablers of jihad terror aren’t just targeting Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer: they’re going after anyone and everyone who dares to utter a truthful word about the global jihad and Islamic supremacism. No one is spared, and no one will be spared – not even those who repeat politically correct niceties about how the Religion of Peace has been hijacked. The crocodile will eat them as well, even if it eats them last.
If host organizations and institutions in the United States realized what was at stake, they would be inundating Pamela Geller with speaking invitations right now. And when the Leftists and Islamic supremacists began their smear and intimidation campaigns, they would show themselves resolute, determined, and immovable.
But this is not an age of iron. It’s an age of jelly. And so the order of the day will be more intimidation, more threats, and more defamation directed against anyone who speaks out against the jihad and Islamic supremacism, and anyone who dares to host that speaker. Until finally, there is no one left to speak out, no one at all.

Students at Britain’s prestigious Oxford University are set to hold a controversial vote this week as the Students Union (OUSU) stands to make its final decision on whether to boycott Israeli companies and products.
The vote, which is scheduled for Wednesday, follows a tumultuous week, brought about by anti-Israeli MP George Galloway’s hurried and highly criticized exit of a debate on Israel, after discovering that his opponent was an Israeli citizen.
“I don’t recognize Israel and I don’t debate with Israelis,” Galloway said, to gasps of shock and mutters of “racism.”
According to The Guardian, the boycott motion calls on Oxford students to join the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement “in protest of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and its hindrance of attempts to create a Palestinian state.”

Obama On Holocaust Remembrance Day Refers To Systematic Slaughter Of 6 Million Jews As “Senseless Violence”…
And in what I highly doubt is a coincidence, Obama has been using the phrase “senseless violence” to describe the Newtown massacre.
Via The Blaze:
President Barack Obama on Sunday paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust by vowing to “stand in the way of any tyrant or dictator who commits crimes against humanity.”
“We honor the memories of the 6 million Jews and millions of other innocent victims whose lives were tragically taken during the Holocaust over sixty years ago,” Obama said in a statement marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day. “Those who experienced the horrors of the cattle cars, ghettos, and concentration camps have witnessed humanity at its very worst and know too well the pain of losing loved ones to senseless violence.”
Obama has invoked the phrase “senseless violence” multiple times in his push for more gun control following the Newtown, Conn. massacre.
Jan. 27 marks the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, designed as part of the Nazis’ “Final Solution” to systematically exterminate the Jews — a deliberate act that while incomprehensible, was hardly “senseless.”

Shhhhh…don’t tell Barack Hussein Obama.
AUJS THE REV. MARTIN Luther King, Jr. understood the meaning of discrimination and oppression. He sought ways to achieve liberation and peace, and he thus understood that a special relationship exists between African Americans and American Jews. This message was true in his time and is true today. He knew that both peoples were uprooted involuntarily from their homelands. He knew that both peoples were shaped by the tragic experience of slavery. He knew that both peoples were forced to live in ghettoes, victims of segregation.
He knew that both peoples were subject to laws passed with the particular intent of oppressing them simply because they were Jewish or black. He knew that both peoples have been subjected to oppression and genocide on a level unprecedented in history. King understood how important it is not to stand by in the face of injustice. He understood the cry, “Let my people go.”
Long before the plight of the Jews in the Soviet Union was on the front pages, he raised his voice. “I cannot stand idly by, even though I happen to live in the United States and even though I happen to be an American Negro and not be concerned about what happens to the Jews in Soviet Russia. For what happens to them happens to me and you, and we must be concerned”.
During his lifetime King witnessed the birth of Israel and the continuing struggle to build a nation. He consistently reiterated his stand on the Israeli-Arab conflict, stating “Israel’s right to exist as a state in security is uncontestable”. It was no accident that King emphasized “security” in his statements on the Middle East.
On March 25, 1968, less than two weeks before his tragic death, he spoke out with clarity and directness stating, “peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect its right to exist, its territorial integrity. I see Israel as one of the great outposts of democracy in the world, and a marvelous example of what can be done, how desert land can be transformed into an oasis of brotherhood and democracy. Peace for Israel means security and that security must be a reality.”
During the recent UN Conference on Racism held in Durban, South Africa, we were all shocked by the attacks on Jews, Israel and Zionism. During an appearance at Harvard University shortly before his death, a student stood up and asked King to address himself to the issue of Zionism. The question was clearly hostile. King responded, ”When people criticize Zionists they mean Jews, you are talking anti-Semitism.”

‘Hamas’s charter is itself a declaration of war, and all who join Hamas are automatically sworn enemies of Israel…’
Sir, – At long last, after so much restraint on the part of Israel, the Defense Ministry has taken much needed action (“IAF hammers Hamas targets in Gaza offensive, November 15).
The Palestinians in Gaza cannot wage an undeclared war against Israel without a real response.
Even the UN Security Council should understand that in no way can Israel exist under a constant barrage of rockets.
Ban Ki-moon persists in asking Israel to show restraint. Instead, he should call a meeting of the Security Council and state his point of view, which should be that Israel must be supported in stopping the hostile actions against it.
We have reached the point in our struggle for our very existence where we must take into account the anti-Israel hostility of practically all the nations of the world because the Palestinians have been so successful in blackening our name – to which we have allowed ourselves complicity.
We are right in doing something drastic about the need to defend ourselves.
We must state this constantly, with no ifs, ands or buts. God bless our soldiers, our citizens and the justice of our cause.
Sir, – Hamas says the killing of one of its top terrorists was a declaration of war (“Hamas: This means war,” November 15). But who declared war first? The official Hamas Charter, written in August 1988, says:
1. “Israel exists and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it has obliterated others before it.”
2. “There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”
Hamas’s charter is itself a declaration of war, and all who join Hamas are automatically sworn enemies of Israel. The fact that Israel chooses not to attack for long periods of time does not in any way absolve Hamas of its guilt for being in a permanent state of war against Israel for the past 24 years.
When its spokesmen try to influence public opinion by accusing Israel of starting a war, they are the worst kind of hypocrites.
Let no one be deceived: Those who founded Hamas declared war on Israel in 1988, and no amount of media hype can change this.
University of California Student Association Passes Unanimous Resolution Condemning Israel As “Racist”…
Brainwashed by liberal academia.
Via Campus Reform:
The University of California Student Association (UCSA) secretly passed a resolution last month which condemned the nation of Israel of “racism.”
The resolution, passed through the student organization with unanimous support, claims there is a “wealth of scholarship and legal opinion” that exists affirming “racism” on behalf of Israel.
The resolution was in response to HR 35, a California Assembly resolution condemning anti-Semitism in higher education.
No agenda for the meeting was published in advance and UCSA did not contact Jewish organizations about the vote, despite inviting SJP to give a presentation.
Internal emails, obtained by the Daily Californian reveal that the planning of the vote was kept quiet in order to intentionally suppress dissent.
Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) member Luma Haddad, acknowledged in an e-mail to her organization’s board that the vote was kept quiet to prevent opposition.

I appeared on ‘Up Close’ with Diana Williams, WABC-TV’s public affairs show. I debated Rev. Jim Wallis of Sojourners, who is launching his own ad campaign on the subways, “hitting back” at ours. It’s a pity that Rev. Jim Wallis didn’t get his group together to stand up when Christians, Hindus, and so many others were facing vicious persecution in Muslim countries. Where is Sojourners when Christians are victimized by jihad? Wallis is standing up for those who oppress and kill Christians.
Watch the dhimmi debate. Rioting, vandalism, and assault are legitimate responses to freedom of speech.
“Up Close: Subway” Ad NEW YORK (WABC) –
Is it a message of hate, or free speech? Or both?
We’re talking about an ad in New York subway stations, widely seen as anti-Muslim, that’s sparking strong reaction and pushback, including an arrest for vandalizing the controversial ads.
The ad reads “In any war between the civilized man and the savages, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”
They are now posted in heavily trafficked areas such as Grand Central Station and Times Square.
We’ll be joined by Pamela Geller, a conservative activist who created the ad.
She is the executive director of American Freedom Defense Initiative and Stop Islamization of America.
Also with us is Jim Wallis, chief executive officer of Sojourners, a Christian group which works to build alliances among people of different faiths.
UPDATE: Robert Spencer says this:
Wallis says that people might get hurt because of Geller’s ad. Note how thoroughly he has absorbed the dhimmi mindset: he assumes that if Muslims become violent, it is the fault of non-Muslims, who must adjust their behavior in order to placate them.
The host shows that he holds the same assumptions when he asks Geller why she is throwing a match into a powder keg. It doesn’t seem to occur either to him or to Wallis that the only people responsible for the actions of violent Muslims are the violent Muslims who commit them.
Watch the clip. In it, Pamela Geller patiently explains to these cringing dhimmis elementary principles of the freedom of speech and the necessity not to kowtow to violent intimidation. She brilliantly skewers their tolerance of evil and eagerness to adopt dhimmi self-censorship to save their miserable skins.
More and more people in the public square are demonstrating an inability to grasp this basic point, and that bodes quite ill: the principle is being reinforced that all Muslims or anyone else have to do in order to silence speech that they don’t like is start acting violently. Alan Dershowitz takes apart this idea in an excellent piece about the MTA’s new regulations, which state that ads will be barred if people may react violently to them. Says Dershowitz: the new regulation “incentivizes people to engage in violence. What it says to people, is that if they don’t like ads, just engage in violence and then we’ll take the ads down.”
We have already begun the process of testing this unconstitutional new regulation.
Pamela Geller will never stop talking. Nor will I. We will never accept dhimmitude and submission. We will never bow to violent intimidation. Jim Wallis and other dhimmi Christians and Jews ought to be deeply, deeply ashamed of the stance they’ve taken: they have validated and encouraged violence, hatred and oppression. If free people and free societies survive, they will be looked upon as suicidal fools.

Described as CAIR and Hamas’ man in Congress, Congressman Ellison has been a regular presence at CAIR fundraisers and at pro-Hamas rallies in the United States. As a former member of Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam, Ellison has enough anti-semitic and Islamist credentials to satisfy anyone, and had expressed openly anti-semitic beliefs in the past. Since Ellison got his start with CAIR , his attempt to provide support for Hamas is completely unsurprising. Both Hamas and CAIR are projects of the Muslim Brotherhood, which also helped birth Al Queda.
SHOEBAT But Ellison doesn’t mince words when asked about the Republican party’s formal proclamation that the United States is under assault from Islamic Shariah law . “It’s an expression of bigotry.” ”There has never been any legislation offered to establish Shariah law—not at the federal level, not at the state level.” (But it has been used in at least 23 cases in American courts, which is why so many states are proposing legislation against it)
For Ellison, the anti-Shariah plank was part of a broader narrative of exclusion. “Why do they want to become the party of hate? They’re hating on immigrants who are from Latin America (Only the illegal ones). They’re demonstrating hatred toward Muslims (And rightly so). They’re demonstrating hostility toward women (Only abortion-loving feminazis).
“I’m sad that they have decided to go into this dark ugly place where they see the whole world as their enemy,” Ellison continued. (No, just the real enemies like Muslims) “And this is the thing: I don’t mind debating taxes and spending; we probably should. But they’re the party that is basically a bigoted party and they have now officially declared themselves against a whole segment of the American population, because if we said we were going to put a plank opposing Jewish law, or Catholic canon, it would be an outrage. (That’s because Jews and Catholics aren’t trying to replace the Constitution with sharia law)
So why defend Sharia law, Mr. Ellison? Would you support its implementation if it were attempted? Have you been to Dearborn, MI? Are you aware of Christians being stoned by Muslims who are seeking furtherance of Islam and Sharia law? You see, Mr. Ellison won’t answer questions like that; he will only build straw men that he can beat with his imaginary stick.
In fact, Ellison has yet to respond to Rep. Michele Bachmann’s 16-page smack down of his 2-page response to questions raised by her and four other congressmen about Muslim Brotherhood infiltration. The ultimate irony is that Sharia law is bigoted against non-Muslims. Therefore, by not denouncing it fully, Ellison is the bigot.
The Free Beacon report showed how while in 2004 and 2008 the Democratic Party platform called for Palestinian refugees to be settled in a future Palestinian state — and explicitly not in Israel — the 2012 platform makes no mention of the issue. Similarly, the 2012 platform doesn’t explicitly take a stand on dealing with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, which controls the Gaza strip, yet in 2008 the platform declared: “The United States and its Quartet partners should continue to isolate Hamas until it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel’s right to exist, and abides by past agreements.” The platform does, however, “insist that any Palestinian partner must recognize Israel’s right to exist, reject violence, and adhere to existing agreements.”*
On the issue of Jerusalem, this year’s Democratic platform doesn’t take the stand that the city is the capital of Israel, while in past platforms it was explicitly stated.
It gives me no pleasure to say I told ya so. Obama’s anti-Israel proclivities were evident in the run-up to the election. I wrote of it extensively at Atlas and in my book, The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America. Of course, my warnings were pooh-poohed, and Jewish “intellectuals” wrongly lionized by the diaspora chose instead to buy into the Alan Dershowitz’s delusions. Listen to this putz:
Daily Caller: Liberal Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz told The Daily Caller that he finds the 2012 Democratic Party platform’s omissions on Hamas and Palestinian refugees “deeply troubling.” “I think one shouldn’t give too much weight to platform pronouncements, but in this case, I think the omissions are troubling — particularly the omission about the Palestinian refugee issue and Hamas are, I think, deeply troubling,” he told The Daily Caller
Dershowitz said he is concerned that this year’s Democratic Party platform will make Israel a partisan issue, something he thinks is not good for the U.S.-Israel relationship.
“My goal is always to keep support for Israel a bi-partisan issue and never make a national election any kind of referendum on Israel,” he said. “I don’t think it is a good thing that the Republican platform seems to be more pro-Israel than the Democratic platform.”Dershowtiz said that this is not the last the Democratic Party has heard about the platform as he is personally going to get to the bottom of what happened.
“As soon as I hang up with you, I will call people I know in the White House and in the Democratic Party and find out what’s going on,” he said. ”But believe me this is not the last the Democrats will have heard about this issue. They will hear from me on this one.”
The Democratic National Committee has responded to the controversy over pro-Israel language being deleted from its 2012 platform by pinning the blame on President Obama’s Israel policies. ‘
CNN’s Dana Bash: I asked the DNC [why it omitted sections of its 2008 Israel plank from its 2012 platform] and we have an answer. And their answer was that they were simply following what the Obama administration’s policy is, and the White House said several months ago that the status of Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in the final status negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and that is why it is not in the platform as it was in 2008.
That was obviously the reason for the platform changes, but it’s still interesting that the Democratic National Committee pointed the finger at Obama so quickly. It’s possible the DNC was worried about the long-term fallout with donors; this seems like one of those issues that would outrage the DNC’s pro-Israel Democratic contributors.
It’s easy to see how this could snowball into a serious problem for both the Obama campaign and the Democratic Party. Democrats have been telling the Jewish community since 2008 that Obama can be trusted on Israel — and now it turns out his administration isn’t just pursuing some questionable Israel policies, but also eroding the entire party’s previous pro-Israel stances.

“So, please don’t hit any U.S. military installations. Pretty please…with sprinkles on top.”
The Blaze The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot published a startling report Monday detailing a message it says was conveyed by the Obama administration – via two European countries – to Iranian officials. The request: if Israel decides to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, the U.S. will not support it and the Islamic Republic should refrain from retaliating on U.S. military installations in the Persian Gulf.
From the report by the well-connected diplomatic correspondent Shimon Schiffer [translated via hard copy by TheBlaze in Israel]:
The message that the U.S. conveyed to Iran via the most sensitive secret channels is unequivocal: if Israel attacks, we won’t stand behind her and we won’t be drawn into war (even though Obama has promised the opposite so many times)
In recent days, senior American administration officials turned to their Iranian counterparts via two countries in Europe which act as a back-channel during times of crisis. They made clear to the Iranians that the U.S. does not intend to be sucked into a campaign if Israel decides to strike unilaterally and without advance coordination [with the U.S.], and they said that they expect from Iran that it will not attack strategic American targets in the Persian Gulf. That means, among other things, Army bases, Navy ships and aircraft carriers sailing in the region.
Accompanying the article, the newspaper created a graphic map (pictured below) of various U.S. assets in the region including troops in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia as well as U.S. vessels in the Gulf.
The secret contacts with the Iranians combined with a public statement last week by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey that he won’t be “complicit” in an Israeli attack is being interpreted in Israel as a message from the U.S. that the Jewish state is on its own in stopping Iran from obtaining a doomsday weapon with which to threaten the very existence of Israel. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other Iranian leaders have articulated a desire to wipe Israel off the map. Schiffer writes:
Israeli sources point to the unprecedented low-point in relations between the U.S. and Israeli defense establishments. It appears that the Obama administration decided to warn decision-makers in Israel of the destructive results of an attack without coordinating with the U.S. […]
If true, the report begs the question: If he truly wants to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapons capability, why is President Obama investing in secret contacts with Iran about an Israeli strike aimed at destroying – or at least setting back – the nuclear program? Wouldn’t his efforts be better focused on warning Ahmadinejad of the dire consequences of his apparently accelerated efforts at one day possessing a military nuclear capability?
The Wall Street Journal may have an answer in an editorial this weekend. Though President Obama likes to say he has Israel’s “back,” “his Administration tries to sell to the public a make-believe world in which Iran’s nuclear intentions are potentially peaceful, sanctions are working and diplomacy hasn’t failed after three and half years.”
Also on Monday, The New York Times reported that President Obama is trying to find non-military ways to stall an Israeli attack and restrain Iran’s nuclear march, including naval exercises and new antimissile systems in the Persian Gulf. The Times reports that Obama officials are also considering implementing previously rejected covert activities as well as a new declaration by the president over what would prompt a U.S. military strike.

So…if Moses and Jesus were both Muslims, why are Muslims trying to so hard to wipe their descendants off the face of the earth?
MUSLIM LOGIC: ‘Moses was a great Muslim who liberated Palestine From Egypt’ and ‘Jesus was not a Jew, he was the first Palestinian prophet of Islam.”
A Palestinian university lecturer taught during a recent Palestinian Authority TV program on religion that Moses, a Muslim, brought “the Muslims of the Children of Israel out of Egypt.“ He refers to the subsequent Israeli conquest of the Land of Israel as the ”first Palestinian liberation… of Palestine.”
“We must make clear to the world that David in the Hebrew Bible is not connected to David in the Quran, Solomon in the Hebrew Bible is not connected to Solomon in the Quran, and neither is Saul or Joshua son of Nun [of the Bible],” Ja’ara explained. “We have a great leader, Saul, [in the Quran] who defeated the nation of giants and killed Goliath. This is a great Muslim victory.”
As part of their ongoing attempts to invent a Palestinian history, the Palestinian Authority is trying to hitch a ride into the past by attaching themselves to Jesus. Whereas the historical Jesus was a Jew living in Judea, the PA turns him and Mary into “Palestinians par excellence.”
Is it the heat ? Or is it the rampant inbreeding that makes them so delusional?
From Bare Naked Islam: http://www.barenakedislam.com/
Pathetic to say the least.
In Cheshire, two students at the Alsager High School were punished by their teacher for refusing to pray to Allah as part of their religious education class.
In Scotland, 30 non-Muslim children from the Parkview Primary School recently were required to visit the Bait ur Rehman Ahmadiyya mosque in the Yorkhill district of Glasgow. At the mosque, the children were instructed to recite the shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith which states: “There is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger.” Muslims are also demanding that Islamic preachers be sent to every school in Scotland to teach children about Islam, ostensibly in an effort to end negative attitudes about Muslims.
British schools are increasingly dropping the Jewish Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, according to a report entitled, Teaching Emotive and Controversial History, commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills.
British teachers are also reluctant to discuss the medieval Crusades, in which Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem: lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.
In an effort to counter “Islamophobia” in British schools, teachers now are required to teach “key Muslim contributions such as Algebra and the number zero” in math and science courses, even though the concept of zero originated in India.

Look how tough these Jews are when it comes to going after their own who are brave enough not to hide behind the genocidal rhetoric of the annihilators. Are we to understand that these liberal Jews sanction the jihad war on innocent civilians in Israel?
Where are their knee-jerk condemnations of the vile anti-Semitism on college campuses, in the Occupy movement, and in Muslim media? Why have they never condemned the anti-semitism in the quran? It incites the Muslim world to Jewish genocide? One Jew calls out annihilationists and this is their reaction? Even the Judenrat didn’t protect and defend the Nazis’ war on the Jews. They went along, but they didn’t advance and promote it. This is just sick.
The Bay Area Jewish Community Condemns Anti-Muslim Muni Bus Ads pdf here
Statement from the Jewish Community Relations Council and the American Jewish Committee San Francisco
Last week, a new advertisement appeared on Muni buses in San Francisco, placed by the American Freedom Defense Initiative. The Bay Area’s organized Jewish community takes great offense to the ad’s inflammatory and anti-Muslim language. We are steadfast in our support of Israel and our concern about the growing threat of Islamic radicalism, and steadfast in our opposition to anti- Muslim stereotypes.
We have long been concerned that the repeated appearance of offensive anti-Israel ads would turn our local public transit system into a battleground for the Israeli-Arab conflict; we are no less concerned by offensive anti-Muslim ads. We urge all transit authorities to reassess their policies and to construct advertising policies consistent with laws governing protected speech that preserve public transit as a safe space for all passengers.
It’s a staple of enemedia coverage that these ads are “anti-Muslim,” but actually the words Islam and Muslim never appear in the ads. Nor does the ad say that all Muslims are savages — again, contrary to media myth. The premise of my ad was that a war on innocent civilians is savage. And that is a fact. As long as the Palestinian Authority continues its savage policy of fomenting violence, promoting hatred, and teaching Palestinian children to hate, the number of young Muslims willing to blow themselves up or to slit Israeli throats will continue to increase. That is savage. The Palestinian Authority propaganda of Holocaust-denial, calls for the killing of the Jews, and glorification of bloodthirsty jihadis is savage.
Tell me again why the word “savage” is inaccurate. The targeting of civilians is savage. The relentless 60-year campaign of terror against the Jewish people is savage. The torture of hostage Gilad Shalit was savage. The bloody hacking to death of the Fogel family was savage. The Munich Olympic massacre was savage. The unspeakable torture of Ehud Goldwasser was savage. The tens of thousands of rockets fired from Gaza into southern Israel (into schools, homes, etc.) are savage. The vicious Jew-hatred behind this genocide is savage. The endless demonization of the Jewish people in the Palestinian and Arab media is savage. The refusal to recognize the state of Israel as a Jewish state is savage. The list is endless.
But note that this is the only press release the JCRC has issued in all of 2012. These dhimmis have nothing whatsoever to say about the genocidal rhetoric broadcast on official “Palestinian” Authority TV on a regular basis. They have nothing to say about Obama’s ongoing harassment of Israel. The increasing levels of anti-Semitism in Europe and around the world? Not a word. The only thing that has moved the JCRC to speak are defiantly and forthrightly pro-Israel ads. The JCRC and AJC are a disgrace.
Supporters of the JCRC and the AJC who genuinely support Israel and the Jewish people should withdraw their support from those organizations — and support AFDI. Help keep these ads running. Contribute here, and get the tee shirts here.

Once again the left exposes its hypocrisy and anti-semitism. Funny how the anti-Jewish rhetoric in Muslim media, Islamic school textbooks, and preached in mosques doesn’t raise an eyebrow. Silence is sanction of this genocidal rhetoric. Cord Jefferson over at the uber left website, Gawker, has this (Jefferson has no such post, though, on the anti-Israel train and kiosk campaign). How’s that anti-semitism working out for ya, Cord?
Yes, it probably is.
Leave it up to Pamela Geller and her dumb old anti-Islam group, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, to come up with history’s most vile anti-Palestine ad. Last month, a federal judge ruled that New York’s MTA had violated the AFDI’s First Amendment rights by rejecting the group’s ads for city bus placement. That decision prompted the Muni in San Francisco to accept the ads, despite the fact that it has a policy against political advertising. Because what’s political about a Jewish organization putting out a bus ad that tacitly calls Palestinians subhuman savages?
The premise of my ad was that a war on innocent civilians is savage.

AFDI Pro-Israel bus campaign: Hamas-CAIR’s sharia petition to stop the ads in accordance with the blasphemy laws
More media blowback on the bus ads. Muslim Brotherhood groups are weighing in as well.
First they were calling on followers to vandalize our bus ads; now genocidal Hamas-linked CAIR is supporting a petition to have the ads pulled (in accordance with the laws of the sharia). CAIR said, “We don’t feel comfortable boarding buses that label an entire community savage.”
“An entire community?” What community is that, CAIR? What community supports the targeting of innocent civilians? Is Hamas-CAIR saying that all Muslims support the annihilation of Israel? Very revealing, but not surprising. The first paragraph of the Hamas charter calls for the destruction of Israel.
They don’t feel comfortable boarding a bus with our ads? Imagine how the Jews feel boarding a bus with homicide bombers. Which bus would you rather board?
Muni Bus Ads Call Israel’s Enemies ‘Savages’ KQED News
If you are out and about in San Francisco, you may have noticed ads on the sides of Muni buses that refer to Israel’s enemies as “savages.” The ads are raising questions about the kind of advertising public agencies can accept.
The ads read: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat jihad.”
The ad has offended some San Franciscans, who have expressed their reactions on Twitter. For example:
Pamela Geller, who purchased the ads, had been waiting for approval from Muni for months, she tells KQED’s Aarti Shahani. She says approval came the same day a federal judge ruled that New York City violated Geller’s free speech rights by refusing an identical campaign there.
Geller said she bought the ads in response to advertising that called for ending U.S. aid to Israel. “I wanted to counter that message,” she said.
Why the word “savage?”
Here’s Geller’s explanation:
Because any targeting of innocent civilians is savagery. Mothers and children on a bus are targeted, and that is savagery. Kidnapping and murdering is savagery. The U.S. does not conduct war that way, and neither does Israel. Now, there is sometimes the accidental death of civilians, which is far different than the targeting of innocent civilians.
The ads are scheduled to run through the end of the month. But some people would like to stop them sooner.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations is supporting a petition to stop the ads. CAIR’s San Francisco executive director told Aarti Shahani that she would like Muni to formulate a policy prohibiting hate speech:
We’re hearing from members of the community, both Arabs and Muslims and otherwise, like interfaith and civil rights alike, saying, ‘We don’t feel comfortable boarding buses that label an entire community savage.’
Manhattan district judge Paul A. Engelmayer’s decision to allow the ads in New York does not end the possibility of banning such ads, Shahani says, because Engelmayer did not say all such ads must automatically be allowed. Instead he ruled that the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s policy was unconstitutional because it appeared to ban speech that impugned some groups and not others.
According to the New York Times:
(H)e even offered examples, like “Southerners are bigots,” “Upper West Siders are elitist snobs,” “Fat people are slobs,” “Blondes are bimbos” and “Lawyers are sleazebags.”
Aarti says the MTC is appealing Engelmayer’s decision.
Update at 4:10 p.m: Muni spokesman Paul Rose told Aarti the agency has gotten some complaints about the ad campaign, but that’s not unusual. It has never removed ads before the contract to display them ended. Will this be a first?
We understand how this ad might be offensive, but we are limited in what we can do… We’re exploring options in light of First Amendment issues, our ad policy and our contractual obligations.
According to CAIR, truth is hate speech. But the United States of America has the first amendment to protect us against you.

IOC did hold a moment of silence for Bosnian Muslims, but won’t do it for Jews murdered by Muslim terrorists
So they held a memorial for the Bosnian Muslims and not the Israeli athletes slaughtered in cold blood at the Munich ’72 Olympics. Bosnian Muslims? What about the Serbian Christians who were slaughtered by the Bosnian Muslims? These elderly women are appealing to you.
IOC president Jacques Rogg, what about a memorial to the 1.5 million Christian victims of the Armenian genocide? These spineless, amoral miscreants make my skin crawl.
“Craven Silence on Munich at the Olympics” Jacob Heilbrunn, National Interest
The Obama administration supports it. So does Mitt Romney. The “it” in question is a moment of silence for the Israeli victims of a Palestinian terrorist organization called Black September at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Eleven members of the Israeli team were murdered. An online petition calling for a minute of silence also exists.
But IOC president Jacques Rogge sees it differently. He’s adamantly resisting a formal moment of silence at the opening ceremony of the London Games this Friday: “We feel that the opening ceremony is an atmosphere that is not fit to remember such a tragic incident.” When it comes to the Jews, the IOC curls into a fetal ball—as the Boston Globe points out, it has not resisted ceremonies for Bosnia or the victims of 9/11. But Munich is taboo.
The Olympics has a moral obligation to do better. It more than blotted its escutcheon with the 1936 games in Berlin, which the Nazis exploited to present a friendlier face to the world. The head of the American Olympic Committee was Avery Brundage who later became head of the IOC. Brundage successfully opposed an American boycott. Here is what the Holocaust Museum has to say about Brundage’s stance:
He wrote in the AOC’s pamphlet “Fair Play for American Athletes” that American athletes should not become involved in the present “Jew-Nazi altercation.” As the Olympics controversy heated up in 1935, Brundage alleged the existence of a “Jewish-Communist conspiracy” to keep the United States out of the Games.
He thought Hitler was a great fellow and that the 1936 Olympics one of the greatest ever. The Brundage mindset was on display in 1972 as well, his last as IOC president. The games were suspended for thirty-six hours. “The Games must go on,” chairman Brundage declared. So they did.
So the Olympics doesn’t have a lot to live up to. It has a lot to live down. This year, the IOC isn’t doing a very good job of it. It want to remain silent, in other words, about the importance of silence.
The photo concerning Bosnia was taken at the 1992 summer Olympics when Yugoslavia (then consisting of Serbia and Montenegro) was hypocritically kept out of that Olympiad. With some understandable disgust, Serbs and Montenegrins saw a Croat team take silver in men’s basketball, with the US finishing first. During this period, Yugoslavia appeared to have the second best men’s basketball team after the US. At the 1992 summer Olympics, Yugoslav teams were banned and individual Yugoslav athletes were made to compete as independent participants, not representing their country. The reason for this was quite hypocritical. Yugoslavia was accused of aiding Serb forces in the Bosnian Civil War, at a time when Croatia was doing the same for their brethren. In addition, the Bosnian Muslim nationalists were the recipients of foreign aid (military and otherwise) from abroad.
One wonders how multiethnic was the 1992 summer Olympic Bosnian delegation? At the time, I recall the Bosnian UN delegation being almost exclusively Muslim.

MUSLIM OPPOSITION is why the Olympic Committee denied moment of silence for 40th anniversary of 11 Israeli athletes slaughtered by Palestinian terrorists at Munich Olympics 1972
Posted: July 21, 2012 | Author: barenakedislam
This moment of silence was supported by most Western countries including Israel, Canada, the UK, Australia, Belgium , Germany, Italy, and even Barack Hussein Obama. (Although his support was conspicuously absent until he was sure the Olympic committee had denied the request)
Sportscaster and Olympics commentator, Bob Costas, will, however, hold a moment of silence for the slain Israeli athletes during the opening ceremonies for America. (More on this below)
On this, the 40th anniversary of this Islamic barbarism, the families of the victims, led by Munich widow Ankie Spitzer petitioned the International Olympic Committee to honor the memory of the murdered athletes with a minute of silence. But threats to boycott the Games by several Muslim countries are why the Olympic Committee turned down the 60-second tribute.
For those who don’t remember the Munich Massacre:
Tablet When the Olympics returned to Germany in 1972, the German government was intent that nothing about them evoke the memory of the 1936 Berlin games, held under the heavy hand of Nazi militarism. The Germans wanted these to be “the Happy Games.” Security would not be in evidence: Athletes freely climbed over the chain link fence surrounding the Olympic Village when they forgot their identification badges. Everything had to be relaxed. Germany had a new face to show the world.
That all changed on the morning of Sept. 5, when Palestinian terrorists from Fatah’s Black September organization scaled the fence around the Olympic Village. Armed with machine guns and grenades, they immediately killed two Israeli athletes and took nine others hostage. They demanded that Israel release 234 Palestinian prisoners and Germany release the two founding members of the Baader-Meinhof Gang.
When the release did not materialize by the late afternoon, the terrorists demanded a plane to take them to Egypt. German officials agreed but planned an ambush at the airport. The ambush was completely botched: A team of German police assigned to entrap the terrorists walked off the job as the terrorists were on their way to the airport. There were more terrorists than German snipers—and the snipers could not communicate with each other or with the officials in charge. Armored cars, which were ordered for backup, got caught in an hour-long traffic jam around the airport.
A gun battle erupted between the German forces and the terrorists on the tarmac, and the athletes, whom the captors had bound one to another in the helicopters that had brought them to the airport, were caught in the middle. When the terrorists realized that they could not escape, they shot the hostages and then threw a grenade into the helicopters to ensure that they were dead.
Why the IOC refusal? The Olympic Committee’s official explanation is that the games are apolitical. The families were repeatedly told by long-time IOC President Juan Samaranch that the Olympic movement avoided political issues. He seemed to have forgotten that at the 1996 opening ceremony he spoke about the Bosnian war. Politics were also present at the 2002 games, which opened with a minute of silence for the victims of 9/11.
The families have also been told that a commemoration of this sort was inappropriate at the opening of such a celebratory event. However, the IOC has memorialized other athletes who died “in the line of duty.” At the 2010 winter games, for example, there was a moment of silence to commemorate an athlete who died in a training accident.
The IOC’s explanation is nothing more than a pathetic excuse. The athletes who were murdered were from Israel and were Jews—that is why they aren’t being remembered. The only conclusion one can draw is that Jewish blood is cheap, too cheap to risk upsetting a bloc of Arab nations and other countries that oppose Israel and its policies.
This was the greatest tragedy to ever occur during the Olympic Games. Yet the IOC has made it quite clear that these victims are not worth 60 seconds. Imagine for a moment that these athletes had been from the United States, Canada, Australia, or even Germany. No one would think twice about commemorating them. But these athletes came from a country and a people who somehow deserve to be victims. Their lost lives are apparently not worth a minute.
The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) immoral decision to reject calls for a moment of silence for Israeli’s athletes murdered at the 1972 Munich games will not go unnoticed.
Sportcaster Bob Costas told the Hollywood Reporter this week that he had his own plans for a tribute to the athletes as part of his duties covering the Olympics for NBC Sports.
At the July 27 Opening Ceremony from London, Costas plans to call out the IOC for denying Israel’s request for a moment of silence acknowledging the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Games. On the 40th anniversary of Munich, it’s a decision he finds “baffling.” When the Israeli delegation enters the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium, Costas will stage his own protest: “I intend to note that the IOC denied the request,” he says, modulating his voice as if he were on the air. “Many people find that denial more than puzzling but insensitive. Here’s a minute of silence right now.”
“They’re all gone.”

CAIR Defends Convicted Terrorist Tarek Mehanna After He’s Sentenced To 17 1/2 Years In Prison For Helping Al-Qaeda…
The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Chicago chapter defended convicted terrorist Tarek Mehanna Tuesday, arguing his actions in a plot to kill American troops are akin to a report of American military training for a radical Iranian opposition group.
Mehanna was sentenced in April to 17½ years in federal prison after being convicted of conspiring to provide material support to al-Qaida, conspiracy to murder in a foreign country, lying to the FBI and providing material support to terrorists. The charges stem from a plot to kill American soldiers overseas.
To CAIR-Chicago, it’s another example of law enforcement’s unjust treatment of American Muslims, In an article by an intern posted on its website and distributed to its email list, CAIR cast Mehanna as a victim of FBI surveillance and harassment who was simply exercising his right of free speech.
He launched his own al-Qaida “media wing” espousing violent jihad and published translations of al-Qaida materials including 39 Ways to Serve and Participate in Jihadand the Expedition of Umar Hadid.
“So were Mehanna’s online posts ‘material support for terrorism’ or was he just using his first amendment right to voice his opinions?” the article asks. “Mehanna was sentenced to 17 ½ years in prison, and it’s suspect that his being Muslim had something to do with his indictment.”

US government study says Muslim terrorists are widely misunderstood
They Aren’t “Aggressive Offensive Foe Seeking Domination”
The United States of America is under siege and the coup near complete. A new government study (paid for with your taxpayer dollars) reads like an al qaeda reader. The study says “Muslim terrorists are widely misunderstood and don’t wish to impose Islam around world as is commonly believed in the west, they simply murder innocent people to defend against foreign attacks by enemies of Islam.”
Sure had us and all other freeedom loving peoples fooled. /sarc off
This is the kind of jihad propaganda written by Muslim Brotherhood operative like CAIR, ISNA or Obama White House adviser Dalia Mogahed. Imam Rauf’s verbal diarhhea has take hold at think tanks and universities across this land.
U.S. Study: Terrorists Aren’t “Aggressive Offensive Foe Seeking Domination” Judicial Watch, July 11, 2012
A new government study says Muslim terrorists are widely misunderstood and don’t wish to impose Islam around world as is commonly believed in the west, they simply murder innocent people to defend against foreign attacks by enemies of Islam.
At least that’s what the experts at a public university in Arizona have determined. They offer details and make rather comical recommendations to counter terrorism in a taxpayer-funded study released this week. The highly-regarded academics operate a special center dedicated to studying the role of communication in combating terrorism, promoting national security and successfully engaging in public diplomacy worldwide.
To fulfill this mission, the center gets big bucks from the U.S. government. In fact, earlier this year it got a rather generous $6.1 million grant from the Department of Defense (DOD) for a neurophysiological study involving narrative comprehension and persuasion. The center’s biggest project, however, is a six-year, $4.5 million study on Islamist extremists’ use of narrative to influence contested populations in the Middle East, Southwest Asia, North Africa and Europe.
That brings us back to this week’s rather sympathetic report (How Islamist Extremists Quote the Qur’an) portraying Muslim terrorists as misunderstood by westerners. It spans 14 pages, but here is the gist of it; based on how they quote religious texts (Quran), Islamic extremists are not “an aggressive offensive foe seeking domination and conquest of unbelievers, as is commonly assumed. Instead they deal with themes of victimization, dishonor and retribution.”
Really? 164 Jihad Verses in the Koran
The report continues: “The verses frequently utilized by extremists” address subjects such as “enduring hardships and the importance of fighting against the unjust unbelievers who oppress men, women and children.” This shows close integration with the rhetorical vision of Islamist extremism, according to the brilliant academics that compiled this on the government’s dime.
Now that we better understand these violent terrorists, researches recommend that the west abandon claims that Islamist extremists seek world domination, focus on counteracting or addressing claims of victimization, emphasize alternative means of deliverance and work to undermine the “champion” image sought by extremists. After all, “studies” have shown that al Qaeda-linked militants are 38 times more likely to kill a Muslim than a member of another group, according to these researchers, who say this is hardly the activity of a “competent champion.”
It is important to be realistic about Islamists’ arguments when trying to counter their influence attempts, says a professor to co-authored this study. “If we try to portray them as evil conquerors when their audience sees them as protectors and champions, it damages our credibility and makes our communication less effective,” he said. The report’s lead author confirmed that “what extremists are really saying to Muslims is ‘our communities are under siege and God will defend us if we have faith and courage’.”
Yes, best not portray evil as evil, they might go evil on us.
The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called ‘hypocrites’ and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.
Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verses of violence, the verses of violence in the Quran are mostly open-ended, meaning that they are not restrained by the historical context of the surrounding text. They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as relevant or subjective as anything else in the Quran.
Most of today’s Muslims exercise a personal choice to interpret their holy book’s many calls to violence according to what their own moral preconceptions find justificable. Apologists cater to their preferences with tenuous arguments that gloss over historical fact and generally do not stand up to scrutiny.
